David and Dolores (Dolly) Nicholson have faithfully ministered to eight small churches, in five different states, for more than forty years. Theirs has been a ministry of loving hurting congregations back to good health.
Today, David and Dolly are the ones in need of love and help.
- Last April, Dolly suffered a stroke which required emergency surgery to remove a blood clot from her brain.
- Just three months ago, David experienced a heart valve failure which required open-heart surgery to replace his aortic valve. Now he faces an extended period of cardiac rehabilitation.
Because they faithfully served small, struggling churches, David and Dolly never received what many people would consider a typical compensation package. They lived in parsonages or rental homes. They had no employer-funded retirement plan and no employee benefits. Truly, their ministry together was a labor of love and sacrifice.
Medicare has covered a portion of their medical expenses. However, David and Dolly have had to scrape together thousands of dollars out of their own meager resources to pay deductibles, co-payments, prescriptions and other uninsured expenses. This just shouldn’t be the way faithful Kingdom workers have to live!
When a fellow minister told David about Kairos Benevolence Fund, he reached out for help. As soon as I shared the Nicholsons’ story with KBF’s leadership, they immediately authorized our team to launch a campaign with the goal of raising $12,000 to help this faithful couple.
In Acts 2 we read how the first-century church cared for fellow believers in times of need:
“All the believers were together and had everything in common.
They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need.”
