A Stroke, Now Assisted Living for a Widower Minister—Please Help!

Dear Friend,

I’m writing to ask for your help on behalf of James (Jim) Avery. Jim served as Lead Pastor at Draper Park Christian Church in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, for 35 years. He also served numerous terms on the Continuation Committee for the North American Christian Convention; twice he was Local Arrangements Chairman when the NACC met in Oklahoma City.

In 2005 Jim’s wife and lifelong helpmate passed away. Then last July he suffered a debilitating stroke. Since then he has been in and out of the hospital and skilled nursing centers dealing with infections and the after-effects of the stroke. Now, he must live in an assisted living facility in order to receive the care he needs on a daily and on-going basis.

Jim’s medical issues have been extremely serious, even life-threatening, and, of course, very expensive. He has tried to cover most of the uninsured portion of these costs out of his personal savings, but those resources have now been depleted. The only asset left is the family home, and that has been listed for sale.

In the meantime, the fee for his care at the assisted living facility is due on the first of each month, and until his house sells, Jim does not have the money to pay that $3,000 bill.

As soon as I heard of Jim’s need, I contacted a husband and wife who have been generous supporters of KBF. They immediately offered to make a $4,500 donation to KBF—IF we would send out this appeal and ask other Christians to match their gift—making a total of $9,000 available to pay three months of Jim’s assisted living costs.

Will you make a donation now (before the end of the year) and designate your gift to KBF’s James Avery Campaign?

What an opportunity! If we can just raise $4,500 we can double your gift and give a $9,000 blessing to a minister who has faithfully served the Kingdom of Christ all his adult life!

Will you please help? We need you.

Here are four ways you can make a donation to KBF:
